Diagnostic imaging, such as angiography, is typically attained through the use of contrast media and a flushing solution such as saline. The MedXL Angiography Products are typically used as modular conduits for withdrawing and injecting these diagnostic fluids.
The check valves allow flow of solution in one direction only – toward the patient. This is important because they prevent the patient’s blood from flowing back up the tubes and contaminating the contrast and saline containers. As an alternate to the check valve, a stopcock manually directs the flow of the contrast and the saline by turning the stopcock handle. Refer to our new product 2810 (stopcock) and 2811 (check valves).
The higher pressure tubing is made to work under higher pressures because in order for the contrast to be injected into the patient’s blood stream, and overcome the backpressure caused by the patient’s heart pumping blood (blood pressure), large syringes (product 31200) called “injectors” are used to push the contrast into the patient’s blood stream. Saline is used to flush the contrast from the system. Typically, higher pressure tubing is used downstream of the power injectors.
Caps act as protectors at end-connections to minimize contamination and prevent residual fluid leakage when the products are disconnected.
